Hosting and compliance

Some material on these sites is hosted in AWS GovCloud (US). GovCloud is the Amazon Web Services region for U.S. government workloads, and it is authorized for work up to DoD Impact Level 5 (IL5). We keep Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), and material handled the same way, in that region so it is stored and served where DoD data-handling rules require.

The IL5 authorization belongs to the GovCloud region. These sites don't hold an authority to operate (ATO) of their own, and they aren't certified at any impact level. They use the region to meet the handling rules for the material stored there.

Pages hosted in GovCloud may ask for a DoD Common Access Card (CAC). If you don't have one, those pages will turn you away. The rest of the site works the same for everyone, with or without a card.
