SPACE ENVIRONMENT EXPLORER

Welcome aboard.

Satellite tracks and space weather, in one picture — for the Navy Space Cadre and METOC community, and for anyone curious about the near-Earth environment.

This is a work in progress. We build it in our own free time, so expect rough edges and things we have not finished yet. If you see something that needs clearing up, please tell us.

A free, non-commercial personal project. It does not represent the U.S. Navy or the U.S. Government. It teaches; it is not for operational use. The full disclaimer is under About.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

We’re Derek and Sean.

Space Environment Explorer is meant to do two jobs well: give you useful current data when you need it, and help you understand the satellite and space-weather concepts behind what you are seeing.

CREATORS AG1 Derek Conklin, USN LT Sean Egan, PhD, USN

We build this together in our own free time — Derek on operations and design, Sean on science and development — for fellow Space Cadre, METOC officers, Aerographer’s Mates, and curious learners.

The site combines authoritative observations, assimilated products, operational model output, and clearly labeled teaching graphics.

DISCLAIMER

This is a free, non-commercial learning site and a personal project. We work on it constantly, so treat everything here as a work in progress.

We built it in our personal capacities. The views expressed on this site are those of the authors and do not reflect the official policy or position of the U.S. Navy, the Department of War / Department of Defense, or the U.S. Government.

Do not use this site for operations. Sean is a chemist by education, not a space-weather forecaster. This is a place to learn the concepts; operational decisions belong with official sources such as NOAA SWPC and your own service channels.

Everything is offered as-is, with no guarantee of accuracy or availability. Anyone who uses this site does so at their own risk—we cannot be responsible for errors.

EARTH-FIXED GEOMETRY · UTC

Satellite ground track

The sub-satellite point mapped across the rotating Earth.

Propagated from the displayed Space-Track OMM with SGP4. CelesTrak supplies optional catalog curation, not orbital elements. This is a teaching ephemeris—not telemetry, an assigned longitude determination, or a conjunction-quality product.

ORBITAL HISTORY · INFERRED FROM PUBLIC ELEMENTS

How this orbit has changed

Element sets archived on this machine, the changes that cleared the catalogue's own fit noise, and what each would have cost.

These are fitted mean elements published every few hours, not measurements of where a satellite is. What we can see is how the fit moved. Nothing here is a report of what an operator did.

NOAA SPACE WEATHER PREDICTION CENTER

Operational space-weather outlook

Current NOAA scales and separately issued forecast products, reformatted for quick reading without changing the underlying values.

Recent NOAA bulletins

Recent feed messages are not necessarily active; valid windows, extensions, and cancellations remain in NOAA’s raw text.

Issue times are shown independently because NOAA products can update at different times. Educational display only; use NOAA SWPC for official warning decisions.
