Rules & guidance

Plain-language highlights. Follow your command's schedule and your CFL's direction.

01
BCA measurementsHeight, waist, weight, and official rounding

Height rounds up to the next half-inch. Each waist reading rounds down to a half-inch. If the first two readings differ by more than one inch, a third is required and the closest two are averaged. Weight rounds to the nearest pound, with a half-pound rounded up.

Probationary is a pass—with FEP45 points passes an event but triggers FEP

45 points is passing for an event, but a Probationary event requires FEP. You remain in FEP until a later official PFA has Good Low or better in every cleared event.

Medical clearance and waiversPHA, PARFQ, PPAQ, and command approval

A CO may grant one retest under specific conditions. It is not for score improvement, and it does not retest the BCA. You must retake every originally cleared PRT modality within the prescribed window.

07
If you failFEP, records, advancement, and repeat failures

A current failure means FEP and personnel-record consequences. Beginning with CY2026 Cycle 1, the most recent failure can block frocking, advancement, or promotion until an official or authorized Special PFA pass. Three failures in the most recent four years trigger separation processing.
